TRMM and the CSU General Circulation Model

           +       = ???

The TRMM data is unique because for the first time we can get "real" estimates of the seasonal-mean and diurnally varying total, convective, and stratiform precipitation in the tropics and subtropics. We, the Colorado State University Climate Modeling Group, are using such information to evaluate and improve climate models' convection and stratiform cloud parameterizations. Successful simulations of the global hydrologic cycle and radiative fluxes will help us to better understand nature.  On the other hand, by simulating the TRMM satellite in a GCM, we are able to infer the sampling errors of TRMM, and to provide guidance for current and future satellite mission plannings.
